World Class Maintenance: Maximizing FTFR

World Class Maintenance: Maximizing FTFR

In this short webinar series, we look at three key metrics for maintenance – Mean Time to Repair (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and First Time Fix Rate (FTFR). This episode of the series focuses on how to maximize the odds of maintenance fixing the problem on their first visit.

Industry 4.0 solutions give us many tools to maximize the first time fix rate. I-IoT solutions track details of the machine performance and understand the specific causes for downtime. Advanced sensors can feed the IoT solution with information about vibration, noise and temperature data. When machine failures occur, this information can be made instantly available to the maintenance department, engineering support or any other party to help them understand the nature of the failure before going to the machine. This analysis can be augmented by Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning algorithms to automatically classify failure modes.

In addition, Augmented Reality solutions can allow the maintenance department to initially respond to the machine downtime by providing remote support to the operator to handle as many failures as possible. When that is not possible, these solutions still allow maintenance to gather information about the failure before going to the machine so they can arrive with the tools and parts they need to fix it right the first time.
