World Class Maintenance: Maximizing MTBF

World Class Maintenance: Maximizing MTBF

In this short webinar series, we look at three key metrics for maintenance – Mean Time to Repair (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), and First Time Fix Rate (FTFR). The first of this series focuses on how to maximize the time between failures.

Industry 4.0 solutions give us many tools to increase the time between failures. I-IoT solutions help us track details of the machine performance and understand the specific causes for downtime. Advanced sensors can feed the IoT solution with information about vibration, noise and temperature data. This information can feed into continuous improvement activities to mitigate the failure modes over time. This data can also feed into preventive maintenance optimization efforts, setting standard work to run the machine with minimal wear and tear, optimizing tooling changes to prevent catastrophic tooling breaks and more.

In addition, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms can be deployed to predict when various failure modes are going to occur. This can help to further optimize preventive maintenance routines or in certain cases even allow for running the machine to "just before failure".
